چکیده
The gold-standard management of acute cholecystitis is cholecystectomy. Surgical intervention may be contraindicated due to permanent causes. To date, the classical approach is percutaneous cholecystostomy in patients unresponsive to medical therapy. However, with this treatment some patients may experience discomfort, complications and a decrease in their quality of life. In these cases, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided gallbladder drainage may represent an effective minimally invasive alternative. Our objective is to describe in detail this new and not well-known technique: EUS-guided cholecystenterostomy. We will describe how the patient should be prepared, what accessories are needed and how the technique is performed. We will also discuss the possible indications for this technique and will provide a brief review based on published reports and our own experience. © 2010 Baishideng. All rights reserved.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage: Redefines the boundaries
Last one decade has seen a rapid expansion of indications and technical feasibility for endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided interventions. EUS-guided gallbladder (GB) drainage is gradually emerging as an option among patients who are not eligible for surgical intervention. Calculous and acalculous cholecystitis, biliary malignancy with patent cystic duct and GB hydrops are few of the indications...
متن کاملConversion of transpapillary drainage to endoscopic ultrasound-guided hepaticogastrostomy and gallbladder drainage in a case of malignant biliary obstruction with recurrent cholangitis and cholecystitis (with videos)
Endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage (EUS-BD) has been increasingly reported as an alternative to percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage in failed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Moreover, conversion to EUS-BD can be a good alternative when transpapillary biliary drainage is technically possible but complicated by cholangitis because EUS-BD enables one-step internal...

patients with a covered metallic stent (CMS) placed in the bile duct [1,2]. Percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage, which involves an external drainage tube, decreases the ability of the patient to carry out their normal daily activities. Recently, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)guided drainage has been employed successfully for hepatogastrostomy, bilioduodenostomy, and pancreatogastrostomy...
متن کاملEndoscopic Gallbladder Drainage for Acute Cholecystitis
BACKGROUND/AIMS Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for cholecystitis. However, gallbladder stenting (GBS) has shown promise in debilitated or high-risk patients. Endoscopic transpapillary GBS and endoscopic ultrasound-guided GBS (EUS-GBS) have been proposed as safe and effective modalities for gallbladder drainage. METHODS Data from patients with cholecystitis were prospectively collected f...
متن کاملEndoscopic ultrasound-guided placement of the lumen-apposing self-expandable metallic stent for gallbladder drainage: a promising technique
Acute cholecystitis and other clinical problems requiring gallbladder removal or drainage have conventionally been treated with surgery, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography or percutaneous transhepatic drainage of the gallbladder and/or extrahepatic bile duct. Patients unable to undergo these procedures due to functional status or anatomical anomalies are candidates for endoscopic ul...
